After several years since the last time we heard of the Tamaraw branding, Toyota officially brings back the name with the next generation Tamaraw. Like its predecessors, the next generation Tamaraw is proudly assembled in the Philippines.
For the initial launch, Toyota is bringing over the FX (utility van), Aluminum Cargo, and Long Wheelbase Dropside Pickup—the latter being available in both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic (as the GL model). All three variants use Toyota’s 2GD-FTV 2.4L Turbodiesel engine that has a power output of 150 horsepower and 343nm torque (400nm for the AT version).
The GL Dropside is the more upscale version of the next generation Tamaraw, offering creature comforts like 4-way seat adjustment for both driver and passenger, driver and passenger airbags, power windows, power mirrors, a 7-inch audio system with support for Carplay and Android Auto, LED headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS, and EBD. The rest of the lineup features bench seating, a 2DIN audio system, 14-inch steel wheels, and halogen headlamps.
The main selling point of the next generation Tamaraw is its broad set of customization options, where users can transform it into different things such as a camper, a fire truck, an ambulance, a mobile coffee shop, and more.
Here are the prices of the next Generation Toyota Tamaraw:
- 2.4 Diesel Dropside MT: Php 937,000
- 2.4 Diesel Aluminum Cargo MT: Php 1,041,000
- 2.4 Diesel Dropside GL AT: Php 1,075,000
- 2.4 Diesel FX MT: Php 1,142,000
The first batch of units will be available in January 2025. As for the gasoline version, we were told in the press conference that they will eventually make the short wheelbase, gasoline version of the Tamaraw available in March 2025.
