He fights supervillains like Thanos on-screen, but Iron Man star and lead Avenger Robert Downey Jr. fights a new breed of criminal in real life: digital scammers with the help of a new AI security startup, Aura. Downey joined Aura in March of last year, with the company showing off their latest AI-powered app that he hopes will prevent cyber scams and hacks which he suffered from back in 2019.

The company showcased its latest app at CES 2024. The app is designed to provide a secure and hassle-free experience to users by keeping track of their accounts and preemptively blocking various digital crimes such as hacks, scams, and identity theft. The company has also introduced a new feature that focuses on aiding parents in identifying mental health issues in their children. This is achieved by analyzing children’s phone usage patterns and the amount of time they spend online, which can be a valuable tool in detecting any potential problems early on. New for this year is the company’s focus on helping parents identify mental health issues in their children by analyzing how they use their phones and how much time they spend online.

Downey’s involvement in Aura is personal for him, as the 2019 hack on his Instagram account showed him that even if you take every precaution imaginable, it’s still not enough.

“Honestly, the exponential growth of online crime, just in the last several years, is truly terrifying,” Robert Downey Jr said when he inked the partnership with Aura last year. “It requires an innovative solution to protect our families, which is why I’m joining Aura to tackle the crisis head-on,” he added.
