Lenovo wants to Make Laptops Less Boring with E-Ink

Let’s face it: laptops are generally boring in terms of design. Aside from having the same form factor (2-in-1s also count), brands have limited creativity in decking the lids of their laptops to stand out of the crowd–unless they are gaming laptops. Lenovo thinks laptop designs can be less boring, and its ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 SPE has a lid that can dynamically change design according to what its user likes.

Infinix’s E-Color Shift Makes Back Panels Cool and Unique

Taking cues from Infinix’s E-Color Shift tech, Lenovo’s proof-of-concept with the ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 SPE involves a personalizable E-ink top cover that users can change on the fly using Lenovo’s own suite of hardware and software algorithms. Similar to Infinix’s idea, Lenovo’s E-ink tech claims to not impact battery life and can change designs even while the laptop is turned off.

The idea takes things up a notch from the OG ThinkBook Plus and its monochrome E-ink display. Aside from being in full color, the E-ink display on the ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 SPE allows you to personalize the laptop to suit your personality or your mood for the day. It’s more of a novel tech, but people will love the idea of being able to infinitely personalize their laptops without using any external covers or any stick-on skins.

Outside of the unique E-ink lid on the SPE model, the regular ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 is powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, and boasts Lenovo’s Magic Bay system that allows you to connect various peripherals through its lid, ranging from a LTE modem, your own studio lighting, to a studio-quality 4K webcam.

While Lenovo’s Magic Bay allows for various attachments like an external SSD and an additional screen, the idea of a fully personalizable lid also excites us in making our laptops look hip and cool.
