The OPPO Find X8 has been my daily driver for almost a month now, and I’m convinced this is the camera phone to beat as we close out 2024. The brand’s strategic partnership with Hasselblad and its investments in AI have paid off for its latest flagship, and the photos produced by this formidable flagship are proof of that.
If you haven’t seen our OPPO Find X8 review yet, we encourage you to check it out now. We touched on the camera performance in that review but we’re going to go into deeper detail, specifically how the AI features enhance image capture in a way that other brands haven’t.
First off, the phone sports AI zoom that’s superior to the traditional optical and software-enhanced zoom that we’ve seen before. The phone uses AI to fill details in shots where you’d usually just see an unrecognizable grey blob because of digital fill.
The results aren’t perfect, but it’s still leaps and bounds better than what we typically see on phones that don’t have AI built in.
The OPPO Find X8 also has better implementations of image enhancement software than the OPPO implemented on previous devices. The AI ERASER, which removes unwanted people in shots, works so well that it leaves little to no trace of AI fill usually present in these photos.
What’s great about this phone is that it’s not a one-trick pony. The AI features enhance the photos, but the photos themselves, even without any enhancements, look amazing by themselves. Daylight shots are perfect, with images sporting excellent image quality, detail, and white balance even in challenging situations like shots where there’s a ton of backlight.
But it’s really in low-light situations where the phone’s cameras shine. Even during times when you’d expect it to stumble, it shines – producing images in low light that’s free of noise.
Aside from just having a great camera, the OPPO Find X8 is a great phone by itself. While its design is inspired by its biggest competitor, it looks great, and its overall size makes it easy to hold and use for anyone, no matter how big or small their hands are.
The display is incredibly bright, and the image quality is indistinguishable from its closest competitors. It has flagship performance, and can easily double as a gaming machine when you’re bored. And the battery life! I’m used to flagships not having that great battery life compared to mid-rangers, but the phone lasts more than a day on a single charge even with moderate use. And even if you need to charge, OPPO’s SuperVOOC fast charging tech gets you from 0 to 100 in 48 minutes.
If you’re looking for a solid phone that takes great photos, has fantastic performance and battery life, and is also great value for money, then you might want to take a look at OPPO’s Find X8.
