Canon Brings Back the EOS-3 series with the EOS R3

It has been over 20 years since the last time Canon announced a 3-series EOS camera with the EOS-3, and the Japanese brand is resurrecting the professional camera line with the EOS R3.

Positioning itself between the EOS-1D X Mark 3 and EOS R5, the EOS R3 uses an all-new 24.1-megapixel BSI Stacked CMOS sensor made by Canon. Combined with a DIGIC X Processor, the EOS R3 is capable of a continuous, blackout-free shooting of up to 30FPS in electronic shutter mode with minimum rolling electronic shutter distortion and up to 12FPS in mechanical shutter mode.

The new sensor has a broad native ISO range of 100-102400 and can be expanded up to ISO 204800 for images. Like the R5 and R6, the EOS R3 uses a Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with 1053 AF points and improved focus tracking to as low as EV -7.5 for tracking eyes, face, head, animals, cars, and motorcycles. The EOS R3 also has a 5-axis IBIS, and Canon claims up to 8 stops of stabilization.

Another key feature of the EOS R3 is the viewfinder, where you have a 5.76 million dot and 120fps blackout-free EVF with Canon’s Eye Control Autofocus. The new feature lets you select focus by simply looking at the subject through the EOS R3’s EVF. Beyond photos, the EOS R3 can shoot 6K RAW videos at up to 60FPS and 10-Bit 4K 120FPS uncropped video with C-Log 3.

Other features include a Multi-Function Shoe for installing a plethora of accessories like a Speedlite, External Mic, and Smartphone Link Adapter, a one-piece magnesium alloy body with an integrated vertical grip, weather and dust resistance that is on par with EOS-1D models, wired LAN, WiFi, USB 3.0 and Bluetooth connectivity, and dual card slots (one UHS-II SD card and one CFExpress).

Canon EOS R3 Price

The Canon EOS R3 is priced at $5999(~Php 299.7k) and will be available in the US in November.
