After much anticipation, Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy S24 and S24+ globally at its Unpacked Event in San Francisco. Unlike the Galaxy S24 Ultra which is still under team Snapdragon, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ return to Samsung’s home-grown Exynos chipset, with both phones utilizing the Exynos 2400 SoC. That decision may turn off people to Samsung’s new flagships, but if rumors are true the new phones may be the turning point for the long-maligned processor family.

While the hardware upgrades and overall design are incremental at best, the main selling point of the Galaxy S24 series is Samsung’s Galaxy AI. In an approach similar to what Google did with its Pixel 8 series, Samsung is expanding its application of AI on its latest Galaxy flagship phones.
These include features like Live Translation, Interpreter, Generative Edit for Photos, and Instant Slo-Mo for videos. These features make good use of dedicated AI chips, and the Exynos 2400 is expected to have a dedicated NPU like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Samsung’s focus on software this year also extends to updates, where the Galaxy S24 series will get seven major Android updates and 7 years of security updates, effectively matching what the Pixel 8 series has to offer.

While there’s a lot of emphasis on updates on the software and overall user experience, Samsung played it safe with the hardware. The base Galaxy S24 will still get a 6.2-inch 120hz display and 8GB storage, while the battery gets a slight bump at 4000mAh–and still supports 25w charging.
Compared to last year’s Galaxy S23+, the Galaxy S24+ gets a significant upgrade. These include a 4900mAh battery, 45w charging, 12GB storage, and a QHD+ resolution for its 6.7-inch AMOLED display.
Both models get the same setup you’d find on last year’s Galaxy S23 series: a 50-megapixel main, 12-megapixel wide, 10-megapixel 3x telephoto, and a 12-megapixel selfie shooter. IP68 is standard on both models, along with support for wireless charging.
