The Galaxy Z Fold4 is now official, and we compare it to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold3Â to see what Samsung changed on their latest foldable device. Despite both foldable phones looking very similar as far as design language is concerned, Samsung made a few tweaks on the Galaxy Z Fold4 to keep it on top of the foldable phone hierarchy.

If you put both phones side-by-side, the Z Fold4 has a different aspect ratio, where it is shorter and wider than the Z Fold3, resulting in a 21.6:18 aspect ratio for the inner display. This change also makes the inner display of the Z Fold4 look more square-ish than that of the Z Fold3. This was made in order to make the outer display more usable–the Z Fold3’s tall and skinny outer display was a bit impractical to use especially when you use a case with it.
Aside from the obvious processor upgrade to a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and being one of the first devices to use LPDDR5X RAM, the Galaxy Z Fold4 gets a new main camera in the form of a 50-megapixel camera that still keeps the OIS and Dual Pixel AF, along with that bright F/1.8 aperture. Â The 10-megapixel telephoto camera now has 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom.
Speaking of variants, Samsung is offering one with 1TB of internal storage–though that is only available in select countries.
Everything else remains the same on the Galaxy Z Fold4 when compared to its predecessor: you still get an IPx8 rating, along with a 4400mAh battery with support for 25w wired charging and 15w wireless charging.
Overall, Samsung went for a safe route with the Galaxy Z Fold4, making tweaks to its size to make it more friendly to use. Galaxy Z Fold3 users may not be compelled to upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold4 since the upgrades in general are incremental.
