Google Enters Foldable Scene with Pixel Fold

Google has formally made the Pixel Fold official at I/O 2023, formalizing its entry into the foldable segment. Matching what Samsung’s foldables have, the Pixel Fold has an IPX8 rating, meaning that it’s water resistant. As we mentioned a few days ago, the Pixel Fold follows a similar approach to the Find N2 with its compact design–evident by its 5.8-inch 120hz OLED outer display that has a 1080×2092 resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus Protection..

As for the inner screen, the Pixel Fold has a 7.6-inch flexible OLED display with a 120hz refresh rate, 2208×1840 resolution, and an Ultra Thin Glass for protection. Google claims that the Pixel Fold’s hinge offers “fluid friction across the full 180-degree range of motion to securely support different postures”, so it has a Flex mode similar to Samsung’s foldables.

Powering the Pixel Fold is Google’s Tensor G2 processor that’s accompanied by a Titan M2 security co-processor. You get 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage with it.

The Pixel Fold’s triple rear camera setup consists of a 48-megapixel f/1.7 main camera with OIS, a 10.8-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide, and a 10.8-megapixel f/3.05 telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The outer screen has a 9.5-megapixel selfie shooter, while the inner display has an 8-megapixel selfie shooter that’s placed within the thick top bezel.

Keeping the lights on is a 4821mAh battery–larger than what’s inside the Galaxy Z Fold4–and supports 30w USB-PD charging. However, you will need to buy the charger separately.

The Pixel Fold is available for pre-order with a starting price of $1799(~Php 100.3k) for the 256GB model. It’s available in countries where Google Pixel products are sold–unfortunately, that does not include the Philippines.
