Google Pixel 2 Used to Film A Music Video

Showing off its filmmaking chops

While Huawei’s P20 Pro is currently the champion for both photo and video in DXOMark, Google’s Pixel 2 is no slouch either. The fact that the Pixel 2 has a bunch of secrets on top of its amazing hardware and software means that it is a multimedia powerhouse on its own.

Its 1/2.6-inch 12MP sensor, paired with a f/1.8 aperture, can be used for a variety of situations. One of them is using several Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XLs for shooting an entire music video.

Recently, Google collaborated with Academy Award-winning singer and composer John Legend to shoot Legend’s latest single “A Good Night” using the Pixel 2. “We thought it would be cool to shoot it on Pixel because the camera is amazing and we were fascinated by the idea of using a smartphone to film a big budget music video,” Legend said in an interview with Google.

The music video, which has a club setting, consists of a variety of lighting situations. Majority of these involved low light, which pushed the Pixel 2 to its limits. Aside from the Pixel 2, a few lights and pro-level tripods were used during the shoot.

“The experience of filming with smartphones felt really natural  and the quality from Pixel was amazing,” Legend said. “It’s a boon for creativity and gives so many more people the ability to tell their story and express their vision.”
