While we are still waiting for the day that Pixel phones will be official in the Philippines, Google is expanding its body temperature measurement to work in select countries in Europe like Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The quirky feature made its debut on the Pixel 8 Pro, and uses a dedicated app to check for body temperature. The feature formally became available as part of the January 2024 Pixel Feature Drop.
Utilizing a dedicated temperature sensor on the Pixel, this feature allows for accurate measurements for body temperature. and object temperature. As much as the feature may sound weird, it’s a nice feature to have on a phone–especially when you need to check on your loved one if they have a fever.
With the feature being made available in the US and select countries in Europe, it’s just a matter of time before it reaches Asian countries–specifically those where the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL are officially sold. One disclaimer though: 9to5Google notes that in order for the body temperature feature to work, the Pixel phone should have an “active SIM or eSIM issued from a carried based in one of these countries.”
How would you use this weird feature? Do you think apps like these should be added to future phones?
