Here’s Your Best Look at the Huawei P40

Looks more like a refined P30 Pro

While we are roughly less than a month away from the official launch of the P40 Series, we have only seen (at least in renders) what the P40 Pro and P40 Pro Ceramic Edition will look like. For the first time. Digital Trends got their hands on an early prototype of the P40.

Carrying the codename Polarie, the P40 at first looks like a P30 Pro. However, upon closer inspection, you will notice that the camera bump on the P40 prototype is bigger and more squarish compared to the P30 Pro.

Here’s the P30 Pro’s camera module for reference.

Unlike with the P30 Pro, the P40 prototype’s  ToF camera is integrated together with what appears to be a microphone (or a laser autofocus sensor) with an LED flash on top of it.

Looking closer at the camera module, the periscope camera remains to be there, while the other two cameras appear to have bigger lenses compared to the P30 Pro. Rumors about the P40’s cameras point to a 52-megapixel 1/1.33′ Sony sensor with 16-to-1 pixel binning, 40-megapixel 1/1.5′ Cine camera, 8-megapixel periscope camera.

For the chassis, Digital Trends noted that the P40 prototype appears to be thicker than the P30 Pro, fueling possibilities that Huawei might be equipping the P40 with a bigger battery—perhaps a 4500mAh cell.

Other rumored specs for the P40 series include support for WiFi 6+, 22.5w wired charging, and Kirin 990 5G processor.
