Unlike in previous years, Huawei only introduced one flagship line last year with the P50 series that includes the P50 Pocket and P50 Pro. Because of that, people are wondering about the fate of the Mate 50 series. To quell rumors and speculations, Huawei Consumer Business Group Vice President Li Changzhou confirmed that the Mate 50 series is indeed in the works.
“The Mate 50 will come, but not right now. At present, there are still many other good products worth paying attention to,” Changzou said, elaborating that their MWC 2022 presscon is focused on products like the MateStation X, MateBook E 2022, and MateBook X Pro 2022.
While details remain scarce as of the moment, this is the closest we can get to confirm that the Mate 50 series is still in the works for Huawei. Rumors do point to a possible launch in July, and the Mate 50 series is speculated to use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor sans 5G connectivity due to the sanctions Huawei is currently facing. Going to the display, Ross Young previously tweeted that the Mate 50 Pro is expected to use an LTPO display.
Aside from rumors about the processor, the Mate 50 series is expected to have improved camera capabilities over the P50 series.
