Huawei P20 Pro First Shots: 24 Hours In Paris With A 40-megapixel Beast

We take Huawei’s new baby out for a spin!

It’s been approximately 24 hours since Huawei handed us our own P20 Pro to test out, and since then we’ve been cruising the streets of Paris taking photos like crazy. And who wouldn’t be? Despite the overcast weather, the city of love is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and is the perfect place to test the P20 Pro’s unique triple camera.

Paris is a city filled with interesting architectural elements that’s oftentimes out of the reach of the cameras in most phones. Not the P20 Pro though – thanks to its 3x and 5x hybrid zoom capabilities, we had no trouble zooming in far-away statues and murals with very minimal loss of detail.

One of things we really like about the P20 Pro is its night mode capability, which basically allows you to shoot long exposures without needing a tripod. While the shooting mode obviously is well suited at taking images at night, it also excels in shooting photos in low-light environments like stuffy, old restaurants. Shooting in night mode during the day enhances some of the detail that’s usually lost in the shadows. Your images tend to look oversaturated though, so keep that in mind when shooting.

The P20 Pro’s large 40-megapixel sensor is also capable of performing well even in challenging light, though the headline feature here is its excellent night mode. Shooting with it during night time makes taking photos in very dim environments a snap, and while you can probably replicate its results with another phone, you’ll probably need a lot of trial and error, not to mention a tripod.

So far Huawei’s P20 Pro is certainly living up to its promise as being a monster camera. We’ve already started our review process so check back in a few days to read our verdict of Huawei’s newest flagship.
