A Closer Look at the Design of the Infinix NOTE 50

While the NOTE 50 has gone official in Indonesia and the Pro+ version was allegedly spotted during the HOK Invitational S3 Finals, Infinix is generous enough to share with us one of the main highlights of the NOTE 50 series, which is their switch to a metal frame.

Why is that a big deal? Because these days, it’s rare to see a phone in the $500(~Php 30k) range to have a metal frame. With the NOTE 50 series, Infinix boasts its ArmorAlly metal frame, which is described to be a hot-rolled fusion of Damascus steel and aluminum alloy. This translates to combining both the toughness and signature wave patterns of Damascus steel with the lightweight durability, corrosion resistance, and processability of aluminum.

This special alloy gives the NOTE 50 a frame that’s more scratch-resistant, deformation-proof, and capable of withstanding humid environments. It’s also eco-friendly, as it’s made with recyclable materials. Aside from the materials of choice, Infinix also worked on a new manufacturing process where they melt aluminum alloy at 700°C and inject it into a mold with 600 tons of clamping force, to allow multiple phone components to be formed in a single shot. This approach eliminates as many as 22 welding points, resulting in a core structure that’s 3g lighter while increasing durability and offering better heat dissipation.

Aside from the metal frame, Infinix also paid attention to the camera module of the NOTE 50 series, which has an octagonal design that’s inspired by the power and precision of high-end car air intakes, the intricate light play of diamond cutting, and the luxury of Harry Winston jewelry. This gives the NOTE 50 a unique camera module design that easily stands out from the crowd.
