While Xiaomi has announced that it is working on an insane 200w charging tech, Infinix is also joining the crowd, as it confirmed that they have a fast 160w charging tech in the works as well.
It is funny that a number of people did not took Infinix’s announcement seriously, as they revealed that they are working on a 150w charging tech initially on April 1.
To prove that they are dead serious in launching their own fast charging tech(despite focusing mostly on budget-to-mid-range phones), XDA Developers confirmed this with a photo revealing a 160w charging brick from Infinix, along with what appears to be an upcoming hero phone from the brand.
”Infinix has always understood exactly what their local customers want and need, and a new phone would be a great way to show their commitment to pushing forward the boundaries of their technological capabilities,” the brand said in their press statement, confirming that XDA Developer’s post is indeed true.
Developing insanely fast charging tech is a complicated process. Aside from the charging brick itself, brands have to utilize different batteries in order to make them efficient. Fast charging tech can significantly degrade battery life over time as well. One example is OPPO’s 125w Flash Charge tech, which uses a Multi-Tab Double 6C battery cell.
While Xiaomi already has its 120w fast charging tech in the market, the tech remains elusive to its flagship phones. Infinix’s efforts to bring 160w charging is significant, as it shows that emerging markets can get access to this new tech soon without settling for top-end flagship phones.
As of this writing, the fastest charging speeds Infinix has for its phones is 33w, and can be found on the Note 10 Pro and Zero 8.
