If ACER’s crazy device concept involved a gaming laptop with a detachable controller a la Nintendo Switch, Lenovo as the Auto Twist AI PC as its crazy concept product showcased at IFA 2024. While it may look like a normal ThinkBook laptop, one would notice that its hinge has an additional point of articulation that’s reminiscent of convertible laptops from the 2000s.

However, this concept laptop has one trick up its sleeve: as the name implies, the screen has an auto twist design, which allows this Lenovo ThinkBook laptop to adapt to different scenarios by rotating its screen automatically. Just like with ACER’s proof of concept, we don’t know if we need such a laptop, but it does bring in a lot of possibilities with how we work and play.

The secret to the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC’s magic trick? an array of sensors that detect the user’s movements to ensure optimal display visibility, along with its interaction with voice commands to change its form factor on the fly–no hands required. What’s even cooler is that the lid will close automatically when you don’t use it for a certain period–talk about a laptop that provides a hands-free experience.

Being a proof of concept, it remains to be seen if Lenovo will make this Auto Twist laptop a reality. But who knows: they might have a market for its quirky feature.
