Without any question, the A-series chip powering iPhones are among the most powerful mobile processors–even beating flagship offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. But what if you place an A18 Pro chip–the one powering the iPhone 16 Pro series–into a MacBook? That might be a possibility, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo explained on X that this MacBook that will use an A18 Pro iPhone chip will go into mass production as early as fourth quarter of 2025, and will have colorful options like pink and yellow. Kuo also mentioned that it will be a 13-inch model, so we presume that it will slot below the MacBook Air.
The most affordable M4 MacBook Air is priced at Php 64,990, though you can get an M2 MacBook Air for as low as Php 47,490 in Shopee. Add to the fact that it has been six years since Apple used the plain MacBook branding–the last one being the 12-inch MacBook. The unusual move to use an A18 Pro on a MacBook might make sense, as benchmark scores reveal that the A18 Pro is more powerful than the M2. 9to5Mac reports that the A18 Pro is only slightly behind the M4 in single-core benchmarks.
That can also mean that Apple might be planning to phase out the M2 MacBook Air for a new MacBook that uses an A18 Pro chip as their entry-level offering. It will also be interesting if Apple will offer a new Macbook that’s priced at under Php 50,000 so that they can compete with Windows laptops at the same price point.
