Buying a laptop these days is better, as brands have decent, reasonably priced offerings for students and young workers. MSI has been pushing affordable productivity laptops with its Modern F series, and this time they are more affordable models that are priced at under Php 45k. We got our hands on the 14 and 15-inch versions of the 2024 MSI Modern F, and we break down what’s great about them:
Sleek and lightweight design
Whether you are going for the 2024 Modern 14 F or Modern 15 F, both get a revamped design with a thinner chassis at just under 20mm thin. The revamped design on both models includes a more premium look with a subtle Modern logo engraving on the hinge, along with an integrated physical webcam shutter. They are also light at just 1.5kg as well.
The 2024 Modern 15 also gets a numpad that’s useful for number-crunching tasks, and both models benefit from a bigger trackpad, white LED backlighting, 1.7mm key travel, and a dedicated Copilot key.
For color options, you can choose between Platinum Grey or Urban Silver, both being sleek colors to suit everyone’s lifestyle.
Comprehensive Port selection
Having a solid port selection is a must for any productivity laptop, as it saves users from needing to use dongles to connect various devices. The 2024 Modern 14 F and 15 F will impress users with three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports for all their peripheral needs, along with a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port that doubles as a charging port and DisplayPort.
Aside from those USB ports, you also get a power jack, a MicroSD card slot, a HDMI 2.0 port, an Ethernet port, and a headphone jack. That’s impressive for a productivity laptop that’s only under 20mm thick. With both a USB-C and HDMI port, the 2024 Modern F series can support up to two additional displays.
Capable internals
Of course, the 2024 Modern F impresses with its choice of internals as it can be configured with up to a 13th-gen Core 7 processor, making them good enough for demanding productivity tasks and multimedia work. Upgradability is not a problem, as the 2024 Modern has two DDR4 RAM slots to make it expandable with as much as 64GB RAM, along with support for fast WiFi 6e connectivity.
Even with better Intel chips powering them, MSI also equipped the 2024 Modern 14 F and 15 F with upgraded fans that are 4db quieter than the ones used on previous Modern laptops.
Both the 2024 Modern 14 F and 15 F come with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, with the former rocking a Core 15-1335U processor. The 2024 Modern 15 F, on the other hand, uses a Core i7-1355U processor. Both use Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics, and our previous experience with it shows that it’s good enough for productivity and light multimedia work.
Decent displays
Both the 2024 Modern 14 F and 15 F come with IPS-level displays with a Full HD resolution, which should suit the needs of students and young professionals, especially with their productivity work. Complementing the display are two 2W speakers that support HiRes audio playback, making the 2024 Modern also decent for entertainment.
