MyPhone Agua Infinity Unboxing and Initial Review: Octa-Core for Php12,999

It's the MyPhone Infinity!

MyPhone Agua Infinity Now at the Unbox HQ!

Just earlier today MyPhone officially announced the pricing and availability of their new octa-core offering, the MyPhone Agua Infinity. It’s priced pretty competitively at Php12,999 since most manufacturers are offering devices with the same specifications for much more. It’s pretty fascinating how MyPhone is starting to become more aggressive with their pricing strategy (remember the MyPhone Rio?).

Anyway, the good news is that we have an actual unit of the MyPhone Agua Infinity here at the Unbox HQ! We’ll do the full review but for now we’d like to share with you guys our unboxing as well as our initial impressions.

Superior Packaging with Freebies

Really nice box!
Really nice box!

We’ve been a fan of how MyPhone does their boxes ever since they shipped the MyPhone Agua Iceberg. They even improved this more when they came out with the MyPhone Agua Vortex and the Iceberg Mini. The boxes were very similar to the hard plastic boxes that Apple uses for their iPhone 5C and iPods. That said, the MyPhone Agua Infinity probably is the best packaged local smartphone to date.

The packaging we received had several layers. First was an exterior soft plastic box. They needed the box because the phone comes with a free flip cover (it’s slipped in together with the actual phone box). The main box is kinda like a dark version of the hard plastic box that Apple uses for their iPods. It’s not 100% transparent so it looks very cool and slick. It also has a carton slip-on with the image and photo of the phone.

We were greeted immediately by the device after we popped open the black plastic lid. The first thought that came to mind?

Mukha siyang malaking iPhone!

We picked it up, peeled the plastic covers at the front/back, and then another observation popped inside our head.

Parang anak ng iPhone at Sony Xperia Z!

Just like the Sony Xperia Z the MyPhone Infinity has glass both at the front and at the back. The sides are metallic and it’s comfortable to hold and use despite being 5.0-inches. It’s also very thin making it portable and light in the pocket.

Along the sides we found the usual headphone jack, volume rocker, power lock, and two micro SIM card trays. Just like the iPhone you need a pin to open the tray. There’s a free pin inside the box that we used for this.

Nice buttons for power lock and volume. Apologies for the finger print smudges! We weren't able to wipe it!

We’ll do a more comprehensive write-up on the phone when we do the full review. So far though we’re very happy and satisfied with the hardware. We also felt hardly any lag and the full HD display was a joy to look at.

Other than the phone the box also came with another hard silicone/plastic type of back cover. Cheers for more freebies! That means you get two cases with the Infinity. One flip and one back cover.

The hard silicone back cover. Great for protecting the camera lens since it protudes forward too much.

All the usual stuff like the manuals, earphones, charger, and USB cable were inside as well.

High Caliber Smartphone at a Compelling Price Point?

Two thumbs up so far!
Two thumbs up so far!

As far as initial impressions go the MyPhone Agua Infinity passes our standards with flying colors. The Php12,999 price tag is very competitive given the specifications, premium build, and freebies. Our only reservation is the 16GB non-expandable storage.

We’ll do a full review of the MyPhone Agua Infinity soon and we’ll definitely tackle this during the podcast on Monday so please make sure to watch! 🙂
