Huawei Ends 2023 with Kirin-Powered nova 12 Series

After being in the rumor mill for months, Huawei has finally unveiled the nova 12 series in China. Unlike previous launches, Huawei announced four variants, with only the entry-level nova 12 Lite sporting a Snapdragon 778G processor (which is a rebadged nova 11) and the rest of the lineup using Kirin processors. All nova 12 phones come with HarmonyOS 4.0 out of the box, along with satellite connectivity for the Pro and Ultra models.

The standard nova 12 has a flat 6.7-inch 120hz OLED display with a punch-hole for a 60-megapixel selfie shooter and is powered by a new Kirin 8000 processor. Not much is known about it, but it’s presumed to be made using the same 7nm process as the Kirin 9000s found on the Mate 60 series and MatePad Pro 13.2. The rest of the nova 12’s specs include a 4600mAh battery with 100w charging and a dual rear camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide that doubles as a macro camera.

The nova 12 Pro, on the other hand, gets a curved display and a pill-shaped punch-hole that has an additional 8-megapixel portrait camera. Its main camera gets a f/1.4-4.0 variable aperture, making it the most affordable Huawei phone to get such a feature.

Completing the lineup is the nova 12 Ultra, which is almost similar to the Pro model save for an exclusive blue monogram back panel, Kunlun glass, and a Kirin 9000SL processor. Like the Kirin 8000, not much is known about the Kirin 9000SL, but early reports state that it’s an underclocked Kirin 9000S.

Compared to the nova 11 series, the biggest upgrade with the nova 12 series is having 5G connectivity with the use of Huawei’s own Kirin processors. The nova 12 starts at CNY 2999(~Php 24k) for the 256GB model, while the Pro and Ultra models start at CNY 3999(~Php 31k) and CNY 4699(~Php 37k) respectively for the 256GB model.

There’s no word yet for release details outside of China as of writing this story.
