The Reno12 5G fulfills OPPO’s promise of an accessible AI phone, and one of the features that make good use of AI is AI LinkBoost. This next gen proprietary communication technology from OPPO features a 360-degree antenna design and can boost signal reception and optimize network selection using a system-level AI model to ensure stable 5G and WiFi connectivity even in challenging situations.
While there are no menu toggles for tweaking AI LinkBoost, what’s nice about it is that it simply works: compared to other phones we’ve used for both 5G and WiFi connectivity, the OPPO Reno12 5G was giving us better download speeds and more stable connections especially while playing games. We’ve used the OPPO Reno12 5G for Genshin Impact over WiFi–and using the same WiFi connection, our ping levels are lower compared to other phones we’ve tested–with two of these phones boasting a better set of internals than the OPPO Reno12 5G.
How about in situations where it is crowded? We noticed that the OPPO Reno12 5G manages to maintain its 5G connectivity and still give stable speeds, while the other phones we used for comparison would need to drop to 4G connectivity—and in some cases, not deliver a connection that’s as stable as what the OPPO Reno12 5G has to offer.
But how about in scenarios where you don’t have both WiFi or mobile data? That’s where the OPPO Reno12 5G’s BeaconLink comes into play: using Bluetooth and OPPO’s proprietary tech, BeaconLink makes the Reno12 5G connect with any supported OPPO device it detects within a 200 meter radius, and allow both users to communicate via call.
Outside of LinkBoost, here are the other AI features of the OPPO Reno12 5G that we found very useful:
A more powerful AI Eraser 2.0. Aside from those capable cameras, the OPPO Reno12 5G is equipped with a good set of AI imaging tools to ensure that all your photos are IG-worthy. Among those are an improved version of AI Eraser, which feels more refined in editing our photos from unsightly details and photobombers.
We have been using AI Eraser 2.0 for a few weeks, and we applaud OPPO for how efficient and easy to use it is to clean up our images before uploading them on social media. Considering that the OPPO Reno12 5G is a mid-range phone, its AI Eraser 2.0 feature can rival those offered on more expensive devices.
A fun AI Studio app for creating digital avatars. Aside from powerful photo editing tools, the OPPO Reno12 5G also brings out your creative side with AI Studio, where you can make digital avatars of your own.
All you need is a photo of yourself and your desired image peg, and AI Studio will take care of that, giving you several options to choose from. Having the power to do Generative AI imaging on a phone is a nice feature to have, especially if you want to be creative with your selfies and portraits.
Versatile battery management tools. While you’re getting the same 5000mAh battery used by previous Reno phones, the custom MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy created for the Reno mobile platform played a big factor in making the OPPO Reno12 5G more battery efficient. We got a battery life score of 16 hours in PCMark, which is the highest we’ve ever recorded on the main Reno series–and shows that OPPO’s collaboration with MediaTek paid off very well.
The improved battery life also involves better battery health in the long run, as OPPO incorporated several software features that optimize charging and ensure that the OPPO Reno12 5G’s battery can last for years to come.
We’re not just talking about battery life, as OPPO improved the charging compatibility of the OPPO Reno12 5G: aside from support for 80w SuperVOOC charging, it also supports up to 55w USB-PD charging, making it more versatile when you need to top up the battery.
The OPPO Reno12 5G is priced at Php 24,999 and is available at OPPO stores nationwide and through its official Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop channels.
