If OPPO’s rollable concept phone and their patent for a folding phone is not enough to keep you interested, the Chinese brand recently filed for a patent involving a detachable camera module. While it may sound similar to vivo’s detachable camera concept, OPPO’s approach involves the use of a USB-C port that can bend in either a 90-degree or 180-degree angle.
Aside from USB-C, the module is said to have WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC, giving users added flexibility in shooting similar to vivo’s approach. Unlike with vivo’s approach, OPPO’s patent opens up the possibility of upgradable camera modules–though there’s little chance yet if there will be a market for phones with modular cameras.
The likelihood of OPPO bringing this to a production smartphone may be slim, but it gives us a good impression that the brand is exploring various options in making its future smartphones unique.
