The vivo Y52s 5G Gets a Snapdragon 480 Variant

Just like OPPO and realme, vivo has a penchant for launching new devices with roughly the same model name but with a different processor inside. That happens to be the case for the vivo Y52s, which now has a Snapdragon 480 variant in China.

vivo Y52s T1 Edition Specs:

  • Snapdragon 480 processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via MicroSD)
  • 6.58-inch Full HD+ IPS display, 90hz refresh rate
  • 48-megapixel f/1.8 main camera with PDAF, 2-megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor
  • 8-megapixel selfie camera
  • LTE, 4G, 5G
  • WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, side-mounted fingerprint scanner
  • 5000mAh battery
  • 18w fast charging
  • Android 11, FunTouch OS 11.1

Strangely called the vivo Y52s T1 edition, the main difference with this variant is that it swaps the Dimensity 720 processor for a Snapdragon 480 processor. While we have yet tested either processor, some benchmark sites explain that while the Dimensity 720 is more powerful than the Snapdragon 480, the latter has better battery efficiency and is more optimized for games despite its 8nm architecture (the Dimensity 720 has a 7nm architecture).

While the rest of the specs is practically the same—FullHD+ 90hz display, dual rear cameras consisting of a 48-megapixel main camera and 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 5000mAh battery with 18w wired charging—the T1 version apparently has a 70mm vapor chamber inside the phone for better heat dissipation. In addition to that, the T1 version also gets double the internal storage at 256GB.

vivo Y52s T1 Edition (Snapdragon 480) price

The Y52s T1 Edition is priced at CNY 2099(~Php 15.6k), making it more expensive than the vanilla version—though one should factor in that this one comes with 256GB internal storage. There’s no word yet if this will be the 5G-ready Y-series phone vivo plans to launch in the Philippines. As of this writing, only the Y72 5G was made official outside of China—and is currently available in Thailand.
