realme to make 240w Charging a Reality with the GT Neo5

realme confirms that it is bringing 240w SuperVOOC to a consumer product with the upcoming GT Neo5 this February.

It’s almost a year since OPPO announced its out-of-this-world 240w wired charging solution for smartphones, and realme is set to be the first brand to utilize this with the upcoming GT Neo5.

To recap, the 240w SuperVOOC tech of OPPO makes use of the latest USB-PD protocol, which allows up to 240w charging via USB using a special cable. The cable in question is a custom 12A charging cable that makes use of high-grade wires to sustain high charging speeds.

Paired with a 4500mAh dual-cell battery, the 240w SuperVOOC solution can top up the battery system from empty to full in an insane 9 minutes–all while having all the necessary safety measures and ensuring that the battery can last 1600 charge cycles.

Even more impressive is the 240w charger itself, where it will utilize GAN technology to keep its size as small as possible. Compared to an also-fast 150w SuperVOOC charger, the 240w SuperVOOC charger is only slightly bigger.

To ensure stable temps, the 240w charging solution that OPPO and realme will use will be safeguarded by 13 temperature sensors, along with a large graphene sheet to keep temps stable.

Going back to realme, the 240w charging solution is confirmed to debut on the GT Neo5, which is positioned as a budget flagship device. There are leaks and renders of the phone, and aside from having 240w charging, other confirmed specs include a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and a 50-megapixel IMX 890 main camera with OIS.

The GT Neo5 is confirmed to launch in February, and we speculate that realme might use MWC 2023 as the venue to unveil the phone with its groundbreaking 240w charging tech.
