Redmi Gaming Phone Arriving Soon: Here’s What We Know

After being in the rumor mill for quite some time, the upcoming Redmi gaming phone–carrying the code name ARES–has been confirmed by the brand itself through a series of posters.

From the posters alone, it is pretty much confirmed that the upcoming Redmi Gaming Phone will be the official device for Call of Duty Mobile once it launches officially in China. As for the game association, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing explained that around 70% of its users play games with their phones, giving them the idea of launching a bang-for-your-buck gaming phone in the process.

While Redmi has yet to reveal the specs of their upcoming Gaming Phone, the teaser poster used a render of what appears to be a Redmi K40. As for specs, current reports point to the phone sporting a Dimensity 1200 processor, 5000mAh battery with 65w wired charging, and a Samsung E4 AMOLED display with a 144hz refresh rate. As for software, the upcoming phone will come with MIUI 12.5 out of the box.

While there’s little mention about the cameras, rumors point to a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 64-megapixel IMX686 main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and 5-megapixel telemacro camera.

Judging from the rumored specs, Redmi’s upcoming gaming phone is expected to go head-to-head against the recently-announced realme GT Neo, which also rocks a Dimensity 1200 processor.

To recap, the Dimensity 1200 is a 6nm 5G processor that rocks a Cortex-A78 prime core running at 3.0Ghz, three Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6Ghz, and four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0Ghz. It also has native support for up to 168hz refresh rates and up to a 200-megapixel single camera setup thanks to its new 5-core ISP.

Redmi has yet given an official launch date for their gaming phone, but expect it to go official by the end of the month.
