With Xiaomi making the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ official in the Philippines, it’s clear that the brand is positioning the phone as a more premium midrange phone to rival the likes of OPPO’s Reno12. With both phones having roughly the same price tag, let’s compare both the OPPO Reno12 and Redmi Note 14 Pro+ to see how one fares against the other.
Design
While both phones do use Gorilla Glass for the display, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is more premium with its use of the Victus 2 variety instead of the 7i used on the Reno12. Both are water resistant–though the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ earns points for having an IP68 rating instead of an IP65 rating on the Reno12.
As for design, the Reno12 has a less polarizing camera module and is also lighter than the Redmi Note 14 Pro+. However, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is one of the few midrange phones to have an eSIM slot–which is handy for travelers.
Display
Both phones have roughly the same display size, though the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ offers a higher 1.5k resolution and higher peak brightness. On the other hand, the Reno12 has slimmer bezels to give it a higher screen-to-body ratio, and that’s even if it also has a curved display.
Cameras
While they both have the same 8-megapixel ultrawide and 2-megapixel macro camera, they differ with their main camera. The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ uses the same 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP3 sensor used by its predecessor, while the Reno12 uses the 50-megapixel LYT600 sensor.
Both do have OIS and can shoot 4K30 video, and from our experience they have roughly the same imaging performance. The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has an advantage with digital zoom, but the Reno12 performs better in low-light conditions.
As for selfies, the Reno12 has the advantage for using a higher-resolution sensor and having the ability to shoot at 4K resolution.
Internals
Both phones come with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, though the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is available with 512GB storage. Do note that it uses UFS 2.2 storage–unlike the Reno12 that uses the faster UFS 3.1 storage.
The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ debuts the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in the Philippines, and our tests show that it is slightly better than the Dimensity 7300 used on the Reno12. Both processors are good picks for midrange phones, and our experience shows that they are capable enough for most users–even those who play games.
Battery
While the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a slightly bigger battery and faster 120w charging, the Reno12 is not far behind with its support for 80w charging. Battery efficiency is another story: from our tests, the Reno12 has better overall battery efficiency, and we think this boils down to how ColorOS manages battery life. This is something that Xiaomi can still improve with HyperOS.
Price
The Reno12 is priced at Php 24,999, while the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is priced the same for the 512GB variant–with the 256GB version priced lower at Php 22,999. Overall, both phones are on even ground based on what they have to offer.
One thing that has to be considered is that the Reno13 is around the corner–and we’re speculating that OPPO will give roughly the same price as the Reno12 to make it still competitive against the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.
