Samsung Adds RAM Plus Virtual RAM Expansion on the Galaxy A52S 5G

The Galaxy A52S 5G may be relatively new, but Samsung rolled out an interesting update to the Galaxy A52 refresh, adding a new feature called RAM Plus. Similar to the RAM expansion feature found on OPPO, vivo, realme, and Xiaomi phones as of late, RAM Plus utilizes the Galaxy A52s 5G’s internal storage as virtual RAM, adding as much as 4GB of RAM when needed.

Currently, the said update has rolled out to Galaxy A52S 5G units in India, with the update weighing in at around  251MB. Aside from the addition of RAM Plus, the changelog include improvements on the camera stability of the Galaxy A52S 5G.

The idea of RAM expansion on Android phones is not new, as it is essentially similar in principle with memory paging that is already present in Android OS and in other operating systems. Smartphone brands are utilizing this feature only now because newer storage standards like UFS 2.1 are deemed to be fast enough to be utilized as virtual RAM.

Compared to the non-S model, the Galaxy A52s 5G uses a more powerful Snapdragon 778G processor, which may possibly explain why Samsung is introducing virtual RAM on this phone first instead of its more expensive flagship phones like the Galaxy S series.
