Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ Watch: What We Know So Far

Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ Watch: What We Know So Far

A quick rundown of Sammy’s upcoming flagship phones

While we have been reporting about the Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018), Samsung is getting itself ready for the launch of its upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ next year. A bunch of rumors and speculations have been out in the wild, so we compiled them in this article to give everyone an overview with what to expect with Samsung’s upcoming flagship phones.

It will be powered by the Exynos 9810 or Snapdragon 845 processor

As confirmed by leaked GeekBench results, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be powered by the latest flagship processors from Samsung and Qualcomm, depending on where you live. We have a few details on the Exynos 9810 processor already, and we’re just waiting on the confirmed specs of the Snapdragon 845.

In addition, these two new processors will have a Neural Processing Unit like Huawei’s Kirin 970 processor and a 3D scanning feature similar to Apple’s FaceID.

What’s underwhelming, however, is that the Galaxy S9+ will only come with 4GB of RAM according to this GeekBench leak. Considering that the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy C9 Pro come with 6GB of RAM, we hope Samsung changes their mind when it comes to the final specs of the Galaxy S9+.

It will have dual rear cameras

In addition to a revamped rear design and a relocated fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be sporting dual rear cameras like the Galaxy Note 8. As for the layout, the leaked CAD render shows that the dual rear cameras on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be arranged vertically. The cameras will have a “Broadband Anti-Reflection coating” which aims to reduce glare in photos. Aside from that, the Galaxy S9 and S9+’s cameras will be capable of 1000FPS slow motion video.

There will possibly be an S9 Mini

Aside from the S9 and S9+, there’s a possibility for an S9 Mini in the works. The said model will have an Infinity Display that is less than 5 inches and will compete against Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 2 next year. While there are no confirmed specs yet, the supposed phone can either have flagship internals or midrange internals like previous Galaxy S mini variants in the past.

The headphone jack lives on

While the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be arriving with a new AKG headset, recent rumors are clarifying that Samsung will be retaining the headphone jack on both models. This should be a relief for those who prefer to listen to their music via wired headphones and are not completely open to using wireless headsets yet.

Despite that, there is a possibility that Samsung might ship the Galaxy S9 and S9+ with AKG wireless headphones.

It might launch ahead of MWC 2018

As for when the S9/S9 will launch, rumors suggest that Samsung plans to debut them on February 25, a day ahead of Mobile World Congress, which will be happening from February 26 to March 1 in Barcelona, Spain.
