There’s no such thing as excess storage
Soon enough, 256GB of internal storage for a smartphone will not be considered excessive, given the number of media files we would save. In fact, Samsung is going one step ahead by mass producing 512GB chips for smartphones.
These new chips share the same size as today’s 256GB chips, utilizing eight 64-layer 512 gigabit chips to attain such storage capacity. In addition, they run using the eUFS standard, with claimed speeds of up to 860MB/s for sequential reads and 255MB/s for sequential writes. That roughly translates to 6 seconds to copy a 5GB file from this storage and 20 seconds to copy to it.
As for durability, Samsung guarantees that these new chips will sustain up to 42,000 Random Reads and 40,000 Random Writes, bringing it at par with its 256GB eUFS chips.
