The Huawei Mate X5 Has the Biggest Battery in a Foldable

Aside from officially unveiling the entire Mate 60 series that includes the range-topping Mate 60 Pro+, Huawei also updated its foldable with the Mate X5. As a direct successor to the Mate X3, the Mate X5 packs a larger 5060mAh battery inside, which makes it the biggest battery capacity on any foldable device. It supports 66w wired, 50w wireless, and 7.5w reverse wireless charging. You also get the same IPx8 rating as the Mate X3.

While Huawei did not disclose the processor powering the Mate X5, several reports indicate that it might be using the same chip used on the Mate 60 series–which is presumed to be the Kirin 9000s. It is said to have 5G connectivity, supports 2-way satellite messaging, and utilizes SMIC’s 7nm process. A slight tweak to the Mate X5’s design is its all-new Lingxi antenna design that utilizes an AI algorithm that selects the optimal network for the best possible connectivity. It also comes with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage–more than what the Mate X3 offers.

Like the Mate X3, the Mate X5 has the same 7.85-inch LTPO OLED inner display ands 6.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display with Kunlun glass protection. Aside from the four color options that’s currently available on the Mate X3, the Mate X5 adds a new Phantom Purple color option.

Huawei made slight tweaks to the camera module, but the hardware is the same: 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera, 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, and 12-megapixel f/3.4 periscope camera with 5x optical zoom.

The Mate X5 is currently on pre-sale in China, and will be available on September 15. Huawei has yet to disclose the official price and global availability.
