The Nokia XR21 Flaunts IP69K Rating without Looking Too Bulky

For a phone to be rugged enough to have an IP69K rating, they oftentimes look bulky and rather unappealing to consumers. This is something that Nokia wants to prove with the XR21, as this rugged phone looks appealing–AND still has an IP69K rating. That’s a step up from the IP68 rating of its predecessor.

How big of a difference is an IP69K rating compared to the usual IP67/68 ratings we see? The 9K rating means that the XR21 can withstand close-range, high-pressure, and high-temperature water splashes. That basically means that the water resistance of the XR21 is on a different level. Aside from the IP69K rating, Nokia claims that the XR21 can withstand drops of up to 1.8 meters.

To complement its IP69K rating, the XR21 uses Gorilla Glass Victus to protect its 6.49-inch 120hz IPS display that can work even with gloves and wet hands. You get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the XR21.

Outside of its extreme ruggedness, the XR21 is your typical mid-range phone, as you get a Snapdragon 695 processor that’s paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The dual rear camera setup consists of a 64-megapixel main and 8-megapixel ultrawide, so you are not getting any filler cameras with the XR21. Taking care of selfies is a 16-megapixel shooter.

Keeping the lights on is a 4800mAh battery that supports 33w charging. While the XR21 only comes with Android 12 out of the box, Nokia promises 3 major Android updates and 4 years of monthly security updates–not bad for a mid-range phone, after all.

The catch about this aesthetically-pleasing rugged phone? It’s expensive at ÂŁ499 in the UK, which translates to around Php 35k when converted. While European prices are more expensive, the Nokia XR21 is expensive for one that only has a Snapdragon 695 processor–but then, where can you find a nice-looking rugged phone that flaunts an IP69K rating?
