The OPPO A79 5G Finally Gets a Full HD+ Display

It has been around eight months since OPPO brought over the A78 5G to the Philippines. Despite being a budget 5G device, one of the A78 5G’s biggest disadvantages is that it uses an HD+ display–which does not give it great value considering that the A78 5G retailed for Php 15k in the Philippines. The follow-up to the A78 5G aims to correct that with the A79 5G that OPPO recently announced in India.

Aside from a revamped design, the biggest change on the A79 5G is that its 6.72-inch LCD now has a Full HD+ resolution and a punch-hole instead of a notch. This makes the A79 5G look more modern than its predecessor and offers better value for money.

The revamped back panel utilizes OPPO’s Glowing Feather design which has a unique finish that appears like a bird’s feather.

Save for the display upgrade, the A79 5G retains most of the key features of its predecessor. These include a 50-megapixel main camera, stereo speakers, a 5000mAh battery with support for 33w SuperVOOC charging, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

For the internals, the A79 5G technically uses the same processor: the Dimensity 6020 in a nutshell is a rebranded Dimensity 700 that’s used on the A78 5G. Even the pricing is roughly the same: The A79 5G is priced at Rs 19,999 in India, which translates to around Php 14k when converted. We expect OPPO to bring the A79 5G to the Philippines soon, so stay tuned to the site for updates regarding local availability.
