The vivo Y78+ 5G is a Mid-Range Phone with Curved AMOLED

Outside of the Philippines, vivo is making its Y-series phones more compelling. In India, they have the Y100a, a 5G version of the V25e we got in the Philippines. Moving to China, vivo has another interesting Y-series model with the Y78+ 5G as the first model from the Y-series line to have a curved AMOLED display.

What’s interesting about its curved AMOLED display is that its similar to the one used on the V27 5G: specifically, a 6.78-inch Full HD+ display with an in-display fingerprint scanner–again, a rarity on any Y-series phone. The only difference is that the Y78+ 5G only has an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

Moving to the back, its dual rear camera setup consists of a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS–we don’t know if its an IMX 766 or an ISOCELL JN1, but it will be very interesting if it’s the former. Inside, the Y78+ 5G has a Snapdragon 695 processor that’s paired with up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage, and keeping the lights on is a large 5000mAh battery that supports 44w charging.

The vivo Y78+ 5G starts at CNY 1599 for the 8GB/128GB model or around Php 13k, while the top-end 12GB/256GB model costs CNY 1999 or around Php 16.3k. With that pricing, the Y78+ 5G can easily compete against the HONOR X9a 5G, which is the most affordable phone in the Philippines with a curved display.

The brand has yet to release a new Y-series phone this 2023 locally, so the next question will be if vivo plans to bring this phone to the Philippines–AND if it will price it competitively.
