The Xiaomi 14 Pro Can Double As A Pocket Hammer

Need a hammer for an emergency? Well, if you’re rocking the new Xiaomi 14 Pro, then you’re in luck.

The recently announced flagship was used to effortlessly smash through walnuts and even hammer down a nail through a 3-centimeter-thick piece of wood in a video uploaded to Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Facebook.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro ran without any issues following the ordeals and no scratches were visible on its screen, which was protected by the company’s in-house Longjing Glass.

Translated into English as Dragon Crystal Glass, this glass is touted as being the hardest and most durable smartphone glass on the market with a Vickers hardness rating of 860 HV0.025, Gizmochina reported.

In comparison, the Ceramic Shield glass used on the iPhone 15 Pro Max supposedly has a slightly lower rating of 814 HV0.025, while the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra was rated at 670 HV0.025. While we can’t vouch for the Xiaomi 14 Pro’s durability with just one video, Xiaomi’s in-house glass appears to be promising–perhaps can even match or outdo Huawei’s Kunlun glass.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is priced at CNY 4,999, or around Php 39k, in China. A special variant with a titanium alloy frame can cost up to CNY 6,499 or around Php 51k.

There’s still no official word on when the Xiaomi 14 Pro will become available in the Philippines, but those who are interested in the device can expect it to come with a higher price tag. For anyone curious about the Xiaomi 14 Pro’s specs, you can check them out here.
