The Xiaomi 15 Ultra Gets a New Telephoto Camera

Before it makes its global debut in MWC 2025, Xiaomi made the 15 Ultra official in China with an all-new telephoto camera. While the display is roughly the same as the 14 Ultra–6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED panel with a 120hz refresh rate and a slightly higher 3200nits peak brightness–Xiaomi is putting a bigger 6000mAh battery inside thanks to Silicon-Carbon tech. While the battery capacity might change for the global version, you still get 90w wired and 50w wireless charging for either variant.

As a flagship, you’re getting a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage–though RAM/storage combos may be limited for the global version. You’re also getting a premium build with an aluminum frame and Xiaomi’s Shield Glass 2.0 protecting the display. Aside from the usual black and white colorways, there’s a new Silver Chrome colorway that uses aerospace-grade glass fiber and PU leather–making the Xiaomi 15 Ultra look like a retro digital camera. Note that the Silver Chrome colorway is slightly heavier and thicker than the black and white colorways.

Like its predecessors, the main selling point of the 15 Ultra is the Leica-branded cameras. The main shooter uses a 1-inch LYT-900 sensor with a 23mm focal length equivalent and a fixed f/1.63 aperture, while the ultrawide uses a 1/2.51-inch ISOCELL JN5 sensor with a 14mm focal length equivalent and a f/2.2 aperture. The short telephoto, on the other hand, uses a 1/2.51-inch IMX858 sensor with a 75mm focal length equivalent and a f/1.8 aperture, and the selfie shooter uses the same 32-megapixel sensor found on its predecessor.

The main upgrade with the 15 Ultra’s cameras is the periscope camera, where you’re using a 1/1.4-inch, 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP9 sensor with a 100mm focal length equivalent and a f/2.6 aperture. Xiaomi claims that this new telephoto camera can capture up to 136% more light than the 14 Ultra’s 50-megapixel periscope camera.

You get Android 15-based HyperOS 2 out of the box, with Xiaomi committing to 4 Android updates and 6 years of security updates. This also applies to the 15 and 15 Pro as well.

Thr Xiaomi 15 Ultra starts at CNY 6499(~Php 52k) for the 12GB/256GB model and goes up to CNY 7799(~Php 63k) for the 16GB/1TB model. Pricing and available variants may change for the global version, so expect Xiaomi to have more surprises at its March 2 event at MWC 2025.
