Xiaomi took a big chance on their first ever EV, the SU7. Despite only planning to sell just a few thousand units in China, the brand is up to their neck in orders and expect to make, ship and sell around 120,000 of the high-performance EVs this year. But that apparently isn’t enough for Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun – he’s now looking to conquer Nürburgring with their special track-focused version of their SU7, dubbed the SU7 Ultra.

But the Green Hell as it’s ominously known in racing circles isn’t an easy track to conquer, and only a few production EVs have successfully managed to get around the 20.7 kilometer road at race speeds without running out of battery and stalling out on the grass. To conquer Nürburgring, Xiaomi heavily modified the SU7’s overall design, chassis, powertrain and battery.
First off, the exterior. The SU7 Ultra is fitted with front and rear diffusers, as well as a new aerodynamic package and a giant rear wing, giving it 2145Kg worth of downforce – which is needed to traverse the track’s numerous twists and turns. The SU7 Ultra is also equipped with their new V8s engine, with a combination of them providing more than 1500HP to the wheels.
Aside from adding new motors, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra also uses a new battery pack that provides 1330kw of power to feed the motor, which is required for the car to get around the entirety of the track without running dry on the final stretch. To offset the weight of the new batteries, Xiaomi removed all of the aluminum and steel body panels on the regular SU7 and traded them in for carbon fiber panels, along with a special carbon fiber housing for the motors. This allows the car to weigh just 1900 kilos, which is incredibly light for an EV like this.
Xiaomi’s track weapon is scheduled to take on the Nürburgring this coming October.
