Apple Discontinues the iPod Line After 21 Years

Apple hasn’t paid that much attention to the iPod for the past few years. While the iPod Touch got an update back in 2019, the only update that model got is an A10 Fusion processor and a 128GB storage variant. Fast forward to 2022, it was inevitable after all: after 21 years, Apple officially discontinues the entire iPod line.

In its press release, Apple discontinues the 2019 iPod Touch–the last surviving iPod–and added that it will be available while supplies last. In what sounds like a tribute to the iPod, Apple explained how their iconic music player changed the way how music is consumed–and has been integrated into the entire ecosystem from the iPhone and iPad, the Apple Watch, to Macs with Apple Music.

“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impact more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared. Today, the spirit of iPod lives on,” Apple Senior Vice President for Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak said.

If you are looking for an iPod Touch, The Loop is selling a 128GB variant in Lazada for Php 21,490, while you can still grab all colorways and variants at the Apple Store while supplies last. However, unless local retailers decide to give a hefty price cut to the now-discontinued product, you’re better off spending your hard-earned cash on a mid-range Android phone–or add a few thousand pesos and get an iPhone SE 2022 instead.
