Now that Huawei has made the Mate 50 Pro available globally, it seems that the Chinese tech giant will return to its two-flagship strategy in 2023 with the upcoming Mate 60 and P60. This was pretty much confirmed at the 2022 Huawei Developers Conference, where they confirmed both HarmonyOS 3.1 and 4.0.
HarmonyOS 3.1 is expected to launch in March 2023, while HarmonyOS 4.0 is set to launch in the second half of 2023. Looking closely at those dates, it appears that the P60 will debut HarmonyOS 3.1, while the Mate 60 will debut HarmonyOS 4.0 given Huawei’s release strategies in the past.
Things have been different in the last two years because Huawei had to deal with the sanctions imposed by the US, which led to the Chinese tech giant having limited access to components for its two flagship devices. For 2023, Huawei might return to launching two flagship devices: the P60 and Mate 60.
Little is known about the P60 series so far save for renderings that appear to be similar to the P50 series. The vanilla P60 is expected to have a punch-hole display, and its main camera will reportedly use a 64-megapixel sensor and an updated version of Huawei’s XMAGE technology. The P60 is expected to use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor but is limited to 4G connectivity.
