After bringing the Shark 6 DM-O and eMax 7 to the Philippines, BYD expands its portfolio once again with the Sealion 5 DM-I. As a smaller version of the Sealion 6 DM-I, the Sealion 5 DM-I is a subcompact crossover that uses BYD’s latest Super DM-I plug-in hybrid system.
It has an EV range of 71km with its 12.96kWh Blade Battery and up to 1001km with its 1.5L range extender. With both the range extender and motor, the Sealion 5 DM-I outputs 197HP and 300Nm torque.
The Sealion 5 DM-I has DiPilot Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with a rear camera, four sensors, and cruise control. Other safety features include driver, passenger, side, and side curtain airbags, ABS, ESC, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Tire Pressure Monitoring.

It seats five people, and has BYD’s 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen for infotainment, a 8.8-inch display for the instrument cluster, a 6-speaker system, support for CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual zone auto climate aircon. You get disc brakes on all four wheels, along with a MacPherson Strut front suspension and Multi-Link rear suspension.
The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i has an official price of Php 1,248,000Â and an intro price of Php 1,198,000. That makes it one of the most affordable plug-in hybrid subcompact crossover cars in the market.
