Globe to Launch Prepaid eSIM by Q3 2023

After Smart officially rolled out eSIM for prepaid users, a lot of people are probably wondering when Globe will have eSIMs for its prepaid users. After all, the telco was the first to roll out eSIMs for postpaid users back in 2018–when the majority of phones that support it were iPhones.

We did get confirmation that Globe is working to make its prepaid users avail of an eSIM soon during its Q2 2023 Financial Media Briefing last August 15–and Globe further confirmed to Gizguide in a recent statement that its Prepaid eSIM is coming by Q3 2023.

“We recognize the opportunity and we can also monetize the convenience that eSIM can give our customers. And it’s also going to restructure the way we operate because there’s less cost, it’s fully Do-It-Yourself. It’s really convenient for the customer,” Globe Consumer Mobile Business Head Darius Delgado said.

This is a great opportunity for Globe to accommodate its Prepaid subscribers to avail of eSIMs especially since more and more phones now have the support for it: aside from iPhones and Galaxy S and Z-series phones, mid-range phones like the HONOR 90 also have support for eSIM as well.

Aside from reducing plastic waste, other benefits of eSIMs include users being able to create multiple profiles with different numbers while using a single device–and connect multiple gadgets under a single mobile number.
