Google Challenges Chat GPT with Gemini AI Model

If Bard is not enough to challenge ChatGPT in its dominance in the AI field, Google introduces Gemini, which claims to be its largest multimodal AI model to date. Made in collaboration with DeepMind and other Google teams, Gemini aims to seamlessly understand and process diverse types of information, including text, code, audio, image, and video.

“Gemini has the power to create unprecedented opportunities for people worldwide, fostering innovation and economic progress on an unprecedented scale,” CEO Sundar Pichai said in a press statement.

For the first iteration of Gemini, it will be available in three different sizes–Ultra, Pro, and Nano. The Ultra version claims to surpass “human expert performance on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark”, and works great for complex coding tasks. Google even claims that Gemini Ultra is significantly better than its predecessor AlphaCode, where it can solve nearly twice as many problems.

As for the other two versions, Gemini Pro is meant for scaling across a wide range of tasks, while Gemini Nano is meant for on-device tasks. Gemini Nano will be first implemented on the Pixel 8 Pro, giving it new features like Summarize in the Recorder app and rolling out in Smart Reply in Gboard, starting with WhatsApp for its initial version.

Bard, on the other hand, will be utilizing Gemini Pro for better reasoning, planning, and understanding, this major update to Bard is available to over 170 countries including the Philippines, so those using Google’s ChatGPT rival locally should notice the improvements.
