LRT-1 to Cavite Now a Step Closer to Reality

Those coming from the South of Metro Manila will be able to commute via LRT soon, as the LRTA announced that they have successfully conducted it’s first test run for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

The completion of the test run is crucial to ensure that the Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension will be open to the public by the last quarter of 2024.

The test run made use of 2nd Generation train sets, where the LRTA determined it’s compatibility with the installed rail tracks.

“It was a proud moment for us to see our train running along the extension line of LRT-1 from Redemptorist Station to Dr. Santos Station. As we near the completion of this much-awaited railway project, the general public will begin to see more trains undergoing test runs and trial runs,” LRMC President and CEO Juan Alfonso said.

Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite extension covers 6.7 kilometers and will have 5 stations: from Redemptorist Station in Baclaran, Parañaque to Dr. Santos Station in Sucat, Parañaque. As of October 2023, the LRT-1 Cavite extension is 95% complete for civil and system works.

The completion of the extension line should justify the latest round of fare hikes for LRT lines, where the base fare is now at Php 15. Prior to this, the last round of fare hikes for LRT lines was in 2015.
