A lot of us here love movies and shows. As one of the most popular streaming services, it’s not strange to see so many people subscribed to Netflix. Despite this though, the app is different for all of us. What we mean here is that opening one person’s profile will show something almost completely different from another person, save for some local hits and trending shows. This is because the program’s algorithm figures out what you like watching and makes recommendations based on your history. Another variable taken into consideration is whether you’ve “liked” a show by pressing on the thumbs up, and thumbs down for the opposite effect. Well, Netflix has now introduced a double thumbs up feature called “Love This.”
Based on what we know so far, the recommendation algorithm works on weighted averages. Simply put, loving something bears more weight to your recommendations than liking something. That’s why shows similar to what you love will more likely be shown than shows similar to what you like. In addition to that, more factors are also included. As the official Netflix article states: “But a Double Thumbs Up tells us what you loved and helps us get even more specific with your recommendations. For example, if you loved Bridgerton, you might see even more shows or films starring the cast, or from Shondaland.” So even shows with a similar cast, the same producers, directors, and other elements will me included in your suggestions.
This Netflix double thumbs up feature has now been made available to iOS, Android, Smart TV OSes, and other platforms where the program operates. It appears that for every iffy addition Netflix introduces are a few decent ones such as this.
