Yes, Nintendo is Working on the Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch is aging at this point, as it is turning 7 years old in 2024. We have been waiting for the longest time about the Switch 2, and while we have a rough idea on what it will power it, Nintendo has finally confirmed that the Switch 2 is indeed in the works, and that they intend to make an official announcement within the year.

In their tweet, Nintento acknowledged that it has been “over nine years” since they announced the existence of the Switch back in 2015. This most likely means that Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement this year would translate to an official launch sometime in 2025. Don’t expect any mention about the upcoming gaming handheld during Nintendo Direct 2024, as they will be focusing on other things during the presentation

Having sold over 130 million units since 2017, the Nintendo Switch is a successful gaming handheld, leading to other brands like Stream, ASUS, Lenovo, and MSI launching their own gaming handhelds.

The Switch OLED is the latest update to Nintendo’s gaming handheld, which offered a bigger OLED display, better audio, double the storage–but no upgrades to the internals. Nintendo has big shoes to fill for the Switch 2 considering how powerful newer gaming handhelds are–and how the Switch struggles to run newer titles due to its aging hardware.
