Opensignal: Philippines Bags Big Improvement in 5G Download Speeds

While the Philippines is still catching up with other countries in terms of 5G download speeds. In its November report, the Philippines saw a significant uplift in download speeds, with 5G connectivity delivering 9.8x faster speeds than 4G. Looking at 5G download speeds, the Philippines has an average speed of 140.6Mbps, which is slightly higher than Thailand’s 137.7Mbps average 5G download speeds.

The Philippines likewise posted a big improvement in terms of 5G video experience, bagging a 34% improvement over 4G video experience. The country’s improvement with 5G connectivity is evident with the 5G Video Experience index, where the Philippines scored 76.1. In comparison with other countries, the Philippines outscored Spain (75.9), Brazil (76.0), and Chile (70.0) for 5G Video Experience.

Opensignal’s report for the Philippines’ performance with 5G connectivity corroborates with Ookla’s recent reports, where the country’s mobile internet speeds have been improving for the past 10 months.

Aside from improvements in 5G download experience and video experience, the Philippines is among the top 15 countries with location experience (5G reach), where it scored 3.5. For comparison, the USA scored 5.4, while Hong Kong is on top with a score of 6.5.

In summary, Opensignal’s November 2021 report highlighted how 5G connectivity helped in improving the experience of mobile users nationwide. With this upward trend, Opensignal expects 5G connectivity to be better in 2022. “Whatever happens, 5G already underpins mobile services for many and helps to speed connectivity and sidestep congestion. And, in future, 5G will be the foundation of everyone’s mobile experience,” Opensignal said in their report.
