Samsung Debuts The New Galaxy Buds2 Pro: Worth The Hype?

Samsung Debuts The New Galaxy Buds2 Pro: Worth The Hype?

The original Galaxy Buds Pro was a widely-respected true wireless option across the market. Being placed within the Galaxy family gave it the mainstream clout it needed as well as the support within the company’s vast ecosystem, but its sound quality was also respected and praised by audiophiles across the board. It’s been more than a year and a half since the last one though, so here is the follow-up we’ve all been awaiting: the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

On the design side of things, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro maintains the overall silhouette of its predecessor. However, some changes are more noticeable once you take a closer look. The first thing you’d notice is probably the finish on the paint. The original Buds Pro were glossy and shiny, which was a treat when new but a nightmare for fingerprints. Considering the fact that shortcuts are performed by pressing on the buds themselves, this was a huge no-no. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro appears to be matte this time to prevent this issue from reoccurring.

Things also have been relocated a bit. The chassis of the bud starts off round near the ears for the best fit, then balloons into some sort of wing tip. We can assume that the latter was constructed to hook onto the outside of your ears to keep them in place during workouts and walks around the city. This is also where the charging port conveniently latches onto the case to bring the battery up to 100%.

Multiple microphones can be found around the bud, indicating the presence of the company’s latest Intelligent Active Noise Cancellation. Its developers claim a reduction of even the “greatest amount of ambient noise” of up to 33 decibels. We can expect this feature to be improved in various aspects: a wider range of frequencies to be blocked out, a more intelligent transparency mode, and greater control over sublevels within ANC.

Another thing we can expect from Samsung for the Buds2 Pro is improved audio quality. That goes without saying that their critically-acclaimed predecessors were already outstanding, but these are sure to go one step further. The hardware is obviously receiving an upgrade here with 10mm drivers and 5.3mm tweeters in each ear, but the main factor here is the tuning. Now that Samsung knows what exactly appeals to people when it comes to sound, they’ve pushed these Buds in that direction. The kid gloves are coming off.

Watching movies and shows is also now far more immersive with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro due to 360-degree audio. With supported apps, sounds will now come from all directions emulating a cinematic experience that only you can hear. We’ll need to test it to find out more, but this might just trip up some over-ear headphones in this regard. If someone calls you during a movie, you can confidently trust that the HD Voice pickup will transmit your words more clearly than ever to the other end. The engineers at Samsung have installed the latest-and-greatest Bluetooth 5.3 technology to keep the wireless connection reliable and seamless, and also allows the Galaxy Buds2 Pro to support 24-bit HiFi audio.

Bring this along on a walk or run outside and you won’t have to be worried about getting caught out in the rain, due to its IPX7 rating. You can even take it swimming in 1-meter deep water for up to an hour if that’s your thing. Users can keep jamming to music continuously for 8 hours at normal volumes, with 29 hours extra in the case. Both wired charging via USB-C and wireless charging is available.
