Goodbye Sky Cable, Hello Sky TV?

Goodbye Sky Cable, Hello Sky TV?

It seems that Sky’s transition as part of its partnership with Converge is moving fast: After we spotted the TruFiber plans, Sky has also revealed its Sky TV Plans, which aims to replace Sky Cable.

Unlike TruFiber, Sky TV Plans are much simpler with three options to choose from: the base Plan 99 gives you 51 SD channels and 3 HD channels, while the top-end Plan 499 gives you 74 SD channels and 16 HD channels. Just like how TruFiber is similar to FiberX, Sky TV is similar to Converge Vision with the main difference being Sky offering a Plan 499 that offers 90 channels. There are also differences between what Plan 99 and Plan 299 has to offer: if the number of channels is the basis, you’re getting a better deal with Converge Vision if you opt for either plan, so it’s not clear what are the incentives of getting a Sky TV Plan.

The other big question is what will happen to current Sky Cable subscribers following the announcement: while the current Sky Cable plans are still live as of writing this story, Sky plans to phase them out–and they have yet given any new advisory to current Sky Cable subscribers.
