Smart Opens eSIM Upgrade for Prepaid Physical SIM Users

As part of its push to widen eSIM adoption, Smart announced that it is allowing its current prepaid subscribers using a physical SIM to upgrade to an eSIM. This is the first time a telco provider is allowing its current prepaid subscribers to upgrade to an eSIM.

To avail of the eSIM upgrade, current Smart Prepaid subscribers simply need to present their physical SIM at their nearest Smart Store, along with any valid government ID. 

Aside from the upgrade offer to current Smart Prepaid subscribers, Smart is offering non-Smart subscribers to switch their physical SIM into a Smart Prepaid eSIM for free. all they have to do is obtain their Unique Subscriber Code from their current network provider, and submit the required documents like a valid government ID, a screenshot of their current balance, and a signed application form–to the nearest Smart Store.

“This groundbreaking service for prepaid customers builds on Smart’s existing capability to enable fast and convenient eSIM upgrades for postpaid subscribers. Now, it’s easier than ever to port into the Smart network and get your eSIM – whether you’re on postpaid or prepaid,” Smart Postpaid Head Shing Dimagiba said.

The Smart Prepaid eSIM is compatible with eSIM-capable devices like phones from Apple, Google, Huawei, and Samsung.
