Sony Improves Design, Noise Cancellation on the WF-1000XM5

Two years after the WF-1000XM4, Sony officially unveiled its proper successor with the WF-1000XM5. Sony’s new flagship TWS earbuds boast a lighter and more compact design while improving on noise cancellation. To be specific, Sony claims that they improved the WF-1000XM5’s noise cancellation by 20% compared to its predecessor, and they were able to do so through an updated AI Noise Reduction Algorithm.

Aside from offering class-leading noise cancellation, the WF-1000XM5 offers premium, flagship-tier sound quality with Hi-Res Audio and DSEE Extreme, along with an AirPods Pro-rivaling 360 Reality Audio with head tracking. On the hardware side, the WF-1000XM5 has two high-performance processors to handle audio processing and specially-designed drivers.

Another upgrade on the WF-1000XM5 is its Smart Listening features that consist of Adaptive Sound Control, Speak-to-Chat, and Multi-Point connection. The latter allows the WF-1000XM5 to connect to two Bluetooth devices at a time, while Adaptive Sound Control works with input obtained from the WF-1000XM5’s six microphones. Like its predecessor, you get Bone Conduction sensors for better voice clarity during calls.

With all these improvements, Sony claims as much as 8 hours of battery life on the WF-1000XM5 on a single charge–and up to 24 hours with the battery case. A 3-minute quick charge can give the WF-1000XM5 an hour of audio playback.

The WF-1000XM5 is priced at Php 16,999 in the Philippines. Pre-orders start from July 26 to August 24.
