Spotify Rolls Out Music Videos in the Philippines

While we are still waiting for the day that Spotify will release their HiFi tier, they are rolling out their much-awaited Music Video feature, which was teased last year. The music video feature is rolling out to Spotify users in 11 markets including the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia, UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Kenya.

To enjoy watching Music Videos, you’ll need to be a Spotify Premium subscriber, which will cost you Php 149 a month.  The music video feature is in beta as of writing this article and features a limited selection of artists including Paramore, Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Ice Spice. Supported songs–like Paramore’s Running Out of Time–will have a Switch to Video toggle to let you watch the Music Video. Do note that music videos are in a horizontal aspect ratio, so you’ll need to turn your phone into landscape mode for a fullscreen mode.

Aside from Android and iOS devices, music videos on Spotify are also available on desktop and TV devices. Spotify also added in its press release that they will be expanding their music video catalog in the coming days, and make the feature available to more countries.

Apple Music already has music videos, but Spotify appears to have a better UI.

This new feature makes Spotify more competitive against other streaming platforms like Apple Music, which already has music videos. However, Spotify’s approach appears to be better because you get a toggle for switching between audio-only and music videos–unlike Apple Music, where music tracks and music videos are under separate categories.
